salute for second grade

Yesterday we started school and I must say it was a pretty good start. I mean, you have to factor in the fact that brains have been on summer vacation (mine included) and it takes a little bit of effort to get back on a schedule. I always like to look back at our previous first days. We always take a photo at our front door. Not that I thought it would be the same front door for all of school, but it did hit me that we have a different front door on a different house this year. And it almost made me sad. Almost.

Do all kids get ridiculously silly during photo time?

I finally got them to stop giggling for a few seconds to capture these...

And since we have a new front door, that means we also have a new school room so I thought I would share!

We are really enjoying having a room just for school and it is right off of the kids' rooms. Our previous one can be seen here.

And since people often ask what curriculum we use, I'll tell you:

Math :: Saxon 3
History :: We are combining Story of the World 2 with Mystery of History 2. This year we are starting a timeline book and I am so excited!
Spelling/Vocabulary :: Spelling Workout and Wordly Wise

Ok, well I have some cinnamon bread to go check on...

Have a fun year! The room looks great! I remember admiring the poster of the state bird and flowers. Can you tell me who makes it?

Hi Amy...your kids are adorable. Mine start school right after Labor Day. It is a new thing...routine. I have to admit I kind of like getting back into a regime. Makes me feel more productive. Your school room looks perfect:)

You can call me Betty, or Bethany, or Beth ...Just don't call me late for dinner. said...

You and all the other home-school moms are so inspirational.
Didn't do it, but often wonder what kind of difference it might have made.
I''d love it if I got to go to class in a room so wonderfully inviting as that.

Love you school room :) If you don't mind giving a novice home-schooling mom some tips I'd love any pointers you may have. :)
