over a month ago, while i was visiting my family, the local library had another book sale. i fared pretty well at the one
last fall. this year when i walked into the room i actually gasped. there were tables and tables and tables and boxes and boxes and boxes full of vintage children's books. i actually had to steady myself. much like last year all hardbacks were fifty cents. i picked up a few on the first day. well, about a week into the sale, the library staff apparently went mad. you could bring in your own bag, and no matter what the size, you could fill it up for fifty cents! yes, you read that right. i got over twenty books and a big stack of
highlights magazines for only fifty cents! can you believe it? there were some really great finds, but i will only highlight a few for you here. among them were several by
lois lenski,
tasha tudor,
francoise and
maj lindman (four of my favorite authors/illustrators). here are a few great illustrations from some of the books...
where were the fawns when i started kindergarten? one of my favorite finds was a lovely alice in wonderland book illustrated by
maraja. here are two illustrations from it...
in all, i would say that i now have a pretty good size library of vintage children's books. i dare not count them!

WOW! You really hit the jackpot there! I adore oldfashioned childrens books- even the not so old but really cute ones like the little Golden book collection. I have a collection started for my two year old daughter. I am just now getting around to decorating her room and I decided on a vintage story book theme. Take a look at my blog to see the storyboo fabric banner I made her recently.
Hey, keep me in mind if you ever clean out your collection! I'm so envious : ) http://pumpkinseed-unscripted.blogspot.com/
what treasures. i just have one: a hole is to dig. i love it and really cringe when gillian wants to read it. i just don't want to share. :) very cool!
These are great!
I love these! I too am a collector of vintage children's books and am always longing for the coveted "Velveteen Rabbit" find.

i'm glad you shared since i only had a minute to glance at your huge stack the other night and was left wondering what treasures you'd acquired. we've really enjoyed 'holiday time.' thanks for thinking of us!!
I love finding vintage kids books. They have the best pictures in them.
