Yes, I know how to spell Halloween, but little L likes to refer to it as Holloween, so there you have it. When we lived in Atlanta, we only went to a few houses to trick or treat, so the kids only had a handful of candy at the end of the night. Well, this year we went to the neighborhood of some friends and circled their block. I thought Larkin might explode with excitement over his load of candy (which still wasn't a full bucket). Apparently my children have been deprived in the candy area.
I was so excited that for the first time ever, I finished their costumes several days before Halloween. I could hardly believe it. Little L wanted to be Tinkerbell, so I used this pattern and altered it a bit for a better fit. Making wings isn't quite as simple as I thought it would be. But I did survive the construction. She was mostly concerned with making sure I put green puffy things on her shoes.
Mr. L wanted to be Padawan. I used a combination of this pattern and this one. Once I finished the tunic and the vest, I was about to make pants when he told me that he could just wear his brown cords with it. Easy peasy. For any of you Star Wars experts, don't examine this too closely. No, it is not perfectly accurate, but my little Jedi was thrilled with it and that is what matters to me.
Life with Tink and a Padawan is always full of laughs...And completely unrelated to Halloween, this has been my view this afternoon...
Why? Well, I took a tumble down our wooden stairs and have quite a nice bruise/knot on the back of the top of my leg to show for it. I have been sitting on an ice pack. I will say that the smalls were extremely helpful as soon as I fell. They quickly went into emergency mode. They were ready to call dad and within two minutes they had brought me a homemade ice pack, a cup of ice water, and the best part, some string cheese (in case I got hungry on the stairs). I love those two. As for this view, take note of our dog laying in front of the fire hogging all the heat. She has been there all day. And don't you love my less than attractive warm socks that happen to be over another pair of socks? I have been a bit cold the last few days to say the least. I just can't bring myself to turn on the whole-house heat just yet.

Aww their costumes turned out cute :)
I know how you feel with the stairs. When I was living in France a while back, we had three flights of stairs in our house, and I fell down one of them so badly that I had a bruise the size of a dessert plate! To top it off, it was on my bad hip side. The bruise was so deep, that it took almost two years to completely fade away.
I really hope yours isn't that bad.
I'm now terrified of stairs. I also fell in a museum in France too. When we moved back, I told my husband to not even think about a two story house!
Do you recall the scar in the edge of my top lip on the right side? That is from a long flight of stairs in a cousin's house when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I pray that tomorrow is a much improved day for you. Wish I could be there to "comfort" you!
Ouch! Hope you are feeling better soon.
If the kids haven't eaten all their candy yet, you could try this idea:

Ella unloaded most of her candy with me using this technique. The only problem is that you have to be careful not to use ideas that might cost you more money than the candy is worth (unless you want to) it will definitely cost you more in time, though.
you did such a fantastic job on the costumes! I'm impressed! I hope your knee feels better soon and that you warm up. :)
the shoes are a nice touch; i can see why she was so concerned about getting them right!
