simply chairs

Several years ago the church that I grew up in was cleaning out a lot of old furniture. There were so many of these old straight back chairs. My dad said they are at least fifty years old. We got four of them and a few child sized ones as well. We use the little ones for the smalls' computer table. We have always used the regular ones on our front porch. Since our move they have been stacked up on the side porch. In this house we have an eat-in kitchen so we have been able to use our vintage dining table that had most recently been the top for the cutting table in my sewing room. The cutting table has a new top and the dining table has been reunited with its original legs. The only problem was we were having to use some folding chairs that belong with a card table. (Can we all agree that it was not cute even though you didn't see it?)

Michael had the great idea to paint the church chairs and use them at our table. We all took part in tackling the project last week. As I was taking the photo of a chair that had been primed, Larkin placed an unfinished one behind it. I actually like the perspective...
I also loved the contrast of the bright red chair with the very green grass. The grass here is such a wonderful shade of green. A bit of a change from our previous yard.
I believe the chairs bring a cheeriness to the room that those poor, pitiful folding chairs just couldn't muster.
I have another painting project underway that I hope to share soon. The priming is finished. I just need to get around to painting it. Hold me to it, will you?

I love them! They look great with this table cloth. I know the room already looked cheerful but now it really "pops". Good job.

I really love the color you chose for the chairs! The came out fantastic. I love painting furniture, it just gives old furniture a new life.

Hey, I remember you Cynthia Rowley top you made, using that pattern. Was it on pattern review too or flikr? Anyway, I love your gingham version. I really can't wait to make it.
