a good morning

the morning started off well with a yummy grapefruit, sprinkled with brown sugar and then broiled in the oven. if you haven't tried grapefruit this way, you should!

i have finished a couple of Christmas gifts. first on the list was a baby gift. i made this little clutch cube...
when you open the red flap, you get a little suprise...
oh, and there is a little bell type ball inside that rattles when you shake the cube. larkin and lucy had one of these cubes and both loved it.

now, on to some of the ladies on the list. i decided to make sugar scrub. these are so simple to make. and your hands will feel wonderful after using it! you just need to mix these three ingredients:

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup olive oil
lemon essential oil

there are a lot of recipes that call for other ingredients, but this one was the most simple and i already had the ingredients at home. i just found cute jars and tied a ribbon around them with a label...
and thanks to lolly chops i had these cute tags to put on top of the jars...
she has a lot of great download and print freebies. i have already downloaded her template for hot cocoa mix packs and am going to mix those this afternoon. and i am working on some other gifts, so stay tuned...

*i am looking forward to some sunshine in this part of the world. we haven't had any sun all week. not good for photography...or motivation.

What kind of jars did you use? Where did you get them?
I'm so stealing this idea.

i'd like to know where you found those jars too. the kids and i made sugar scrub for their teachers, 2nd year in a row. gillian's teacher from last year loved the gift so much that she caught me in the hall this year to tell me she was passing it on and making these for people in her family! i was very excited. obviously, i'm very behind on my blog reading...still working on a january visit if i can swing it. xoxoxo

Hi Amy. We moved to the Dominican Republic right before Thanksgiving and I want you to know that when I get a little homesick or want to be inspired to be crafty I visit your blog. Thanks for being a breath of fresh air for me. I have had the roughest hands since I moved here. Silly me, I didn't bring any of the heavy-duty hand cremes I used in Boston, thinking I surely wouldn't need them in the Caribbean. Well, my hands look like I am 20 years older than I am. I whipped up your sugar scrub just now and I have super soft hands again! I used "Azucar Crema" which is unrefined sugar, olive oil and "limon dulce" zest (which is a sweet lemon that doesn't taste very good and doesn't act at all like yellow lemons in my recipes). Thanks for sharing...I am sure your loved ones are enjoying all of your handmade gifts! Happy New Year!

oh yes broiled grapefruit is so yummy..thought I was the only one that had tried that before..need to try that again as it has been quite a while since I've had broiled grapefruit.
it's best with the pink grapefruit though..in my opinion.
All of the home made gifts looks great.
