my find
this weekend we hopped in the car with our dear friends leroy and janelle and spent the day traveling through the 90-mile yard sale. well, we actually only made it through 70 miles that is still pretty impressive, right? the kids were amazing. i don't even remember them whining. people, the heat was extreme. it was in the mid-nineties. but, in case any of you are not familiar with georgia weather, it is very humid here. no dry heat here. you get nice and "damp" out in our heat. we were all so hot and gross. i mean really gross. we didn't have a ton of great finds, but the company was excellent. my greatest find was this haba doll cradle. the bottom is stamped "HABA 1980" and then some wording that i can't quite make out, but i think it says something about being made in germany. it is so odd to me that i was a kid when this was made and that it was 29 years ago. i mean, this piece could be considered vintage (according to who you ask). have you ever googled vintage vs. antique vs. classic? there are a wide variety of opinions on the subject. but, i digress. ok, back to the cradle. the best part of this find is that it was only five dollars! they had it marked at seven dollars, but i talked 'em down to five (are you impressed yet?). here is a detail of the side.lucy is quite pleased with it. actually, right this very minute she is on the floor next to me spreading my fabric scraps all over it and saying something about putting her blog on it so the bugs won't get on it. wow.

how cool is this! and a yard sale that lasts even more than 5 minutes long...i am SO jealous. :)
I am impressed. It is so cute. I know Lucy is excited. We also checked out some yard sales. You are so right the weather was so hot and humid. Got some great deals on books, like I needed them. See you soon.
This is my childhood doll cradle (or it's sister) - I am almost positive. I know it was blue with yellow & red markings and the shape is definitely the same. I don't have the ability to picture things in my memory (like my mom, husband or baby's face....or doll cradles) so I am not 100% sure - but pretty close. I was born in 1979 so that piece fits.
I don't know how old I was when I got it. I remember having a church garage sale function in the old town center in Livermore, Colorado (we lived there when I was 4-8 years old). I saw it & was in love & wheedled & pleaded until my mom bought it for me. I don't remember what happened to it after all these years.
Thanks for the memories :)
love your garage sale find. What are you going to do with it? I wouldn't have been albe to stand the heat. Hoping it breaks soon.
