improvements : part 2

in continuing the improvements theme this week, i decided to make a new header. my last one was fine, but i was ready for a change. i really like this new one. i have wanted to post about this little creature for a while. i bought it at an antique shop several years ago. i don't know exactly what it is, but it is by far one of my favorite things.

i also am very excited about this...
i had piles of larkin's artwork. it had gotten a bit out of hand since i did not have a good way to store it all. also, i know that as the years go by we will accumulate more artwork. there are several pieces that i want to keep, but i knew that eventually we would have to part with some of it. well, that was just a little sad to me, so i had to find a solution. i decided i wanted to make a book of his artwork. in preparation, several weeks ago i took photos of all the artwork and threw away most of the actual pieces (well, i had michael do it because it was a little hard for me to do it). fortunately, a couple of weeks ago i received an email from shutterfly for a free hardback photo book. what better time to make larkin's preschool artwork book? we just got it in the mail a few days ago. here is a sampling of the inside...

i plan on making one of these for each school year for both larkin and lucy. i am very happy with the book and i know that it is an improvement over the piles of artwork stuffed in containers here and there. it takes up much less space and we can actually enjoy all of the artwork. larkin thinks it is pretty cool, too.

oh, and in keeping with ending these posts with a not-worth-posting improvement, i did make an improvement on hattie today. her collar was constantly sticking up on both sides, so i tacked the collar to the shoulder with a hidden stitch. definitely an improvement.

Awesome!
I compiled photos on the Mac the whole first year of Ella's life in a photoalbum entitled "Ella-the first year" There are so many pages in it, I don't know if we can ever afford to get it actually printed! At least I finally made it to a professional photographer this month for Ella to have her photos taken.

Great new header! I love your idea for preserving your son's artwork. Certainly beats stuffing things into a rubbermaid tub like I'm sheepishly admitting to...

love the new header! that little trumpeting fairy critter is adorable. the book for larkin's artwork is wonderful too, great idea! it looks like a nice quality book and you're right about actually being able to look at and enjoy the artwork.
