a tote

overcast equals not so great photo. sorry. several years ago, when i signed up with borders rewards, i got a canvas to kill a mockingbird tote. by the way, to kill a mockingbird is one of my favorite books. i used the bag daily until it bit the dust. fotunately for me, a friend had the same tote and never used it and gave it to me. well, that one mostly bit the dust. over a year ago, i cut the screen print of the book cover off the bag and it has been laying in my craft room ever since. i had planned to sew it onto a new tote. around christmas i found this black canvas tote for a couple of dollars. since i was so busy with gifts last month, i had to postpone the project. i pulled it out today and within a few minutes, my tote is back (only now it is black and, i think, a little bit more fun!)

I love that old vintage cover. My copy of that book has a photograph of an intriguing young girl, but it doesn't have the same vibe: http://beta.bordersstores.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=0060935464

have you ever printed on fabric using your computer printer? The colors aren't as vibrant as the original, but there are so many possibilities of what you can print and what you can do with it. You can scan things into your computer or copy an image from the internet. That's how I created the image on Ella's Halloween costume this year: http://kevstephb.blogspot.com/2007/10/halloween-2007_8616.html

That's really striking. I love it. Isn't it a wonderful feeling when you finally complete a project thats been hanging around ages.
Ditto Stephanies comment re the fabric printing. I'm having lots of fun with it at the moment. Opens up a whole range of possibilities......
