to the park

this weekend michael and i took the children to the park in our neighborhood. the park is fifty acres and only a two-block walk. maybe the greatest part of this little trip wasn't the park visit itself, but rather the conversation i had with lucy before we left the house...

mama: lucy, we need to change your clothes so we can go to the park.

lucy(wearing a dress over her pajamas): no. i have my dress on.

mama: yes, but you can't wear your dress to the park.

lucy: but i am cinderella.

mama: you still need to put on some different clothes. you can't wear your dress to the park.

lucy (climbing into my lap and tilting her head to the side): well, i could put on some old rags.

mama: yes. that will do.

  1. I love when kids dress all crazy and they think they are magical ferries or princesses.

  3. that is priceless.

I am told that when I was 3 I told all the neighbors my mom was my stepmom and then I spent lots of time scrubbing the kitchen floor. I don't remember any of that...

really a priceless story, one to put in her photo album!
