mother's day revisited

i have just recently taught my mom how to knit. she has been using a gift bag to hold her yarn and needles. i decided to make her a much nicer bag. i got some fabric samples from a manufacturing plant in my hometown. my mom was with me and she like them, so i decided to make her bag from them. the samples were not very large, so i used four different coordinating patterns to make the bag. i borrowed an idea from penny to use plastic canvas instead of interfacing to make a sturdier bag. it was a little tricky trying to keep the pieces from sliding, but i managed. i am sure there is a better way.
and of course i had to use buttons somewhere. i used these smaller buttons on the inside and stitched them at the same time as the larger ones on the outside to hide the stitching.
my mom was very happy about the bag. she is already on her second project. for mother's day she gave me the perfect gift...her first completed knitting project. thank you, mama!
we had a wonderful mother's day despite the fact that the first half was spent riding out a tornado warning (it was mid-morning and the sky was still black...very creepy) michael, larkin and lucy gave me my favorite lotion in the whole world. seriously, this is the best stuff ever! and they gave me tickets to see jakob dylan. in my book, his voice is second only to that of my husband. i hope all you mamas had a wonderful day, too!
