improvements : part 3

i posted back in january about plans to redo my laundry room . well, quite a bit of time has passed and several planning conversations have occurred between me and my dear friend janelle. the room is quite small and only wide enough for the washer and dryer on one wall and the ironing board on the other. the other two walls contain the door and a window. so, there was not much to work with. well, while we were visiting my grandma over easter and my birthday, janelle and her husband, leroy, decided to do the room as a surprise for my birthday. i could hardly believe it! when we got home on monday night, i went to the mud room (which is adjacent to the laundry room) to get something and the laundry room door was ajar and i could see color. yes color. my laundry room was a boring contractor's beige with scuff marks galore and this lovely mess on one wall...
i like to refer to it as the command center. all those wires are ridiculous...cable, alarm system, and who knows what else. i have never seen so many wires on one wall. and if you look closely you can even see the cobwebs! we talked over and over about how to work with such an eyesore. well, here is what they came up with...
a lovely little door to hide it all away. and look even a table for folding! i was so tired of throwing piles of laundry on any available piece of furniture in the house. now i can fold right in the laundry room! on the opposite wall they repainted my shelves and added a third one.
and let me talk about the color. i love the color. i had already picked it out, but was hoping it wouldn't turn out too "miami vice" and it didn't. i can tell you now that the wall with the folding table will be of great use in taking photos for the blog. i can already thank that wall for the background of my new header! and you also may have noticed the ironing board has no cover. i ripped that hideous thing off yesterday and headed to target to buy a new one. i had no idea they were so expensive, not to mention the fact they would clash with my new "decor." so, i am going to attempt to make one from some fabric i have in my stash. it is kind of sad that i now want to spend so much time in the laundry room. if it weren't for the water shortage around here, i would probably be washing things over and over!

i think that may be it for the improvements posts this week. i did a bit of sewing today that i can't wait to show. i finished a baby gift for a good friend. however, she reads my blog, so i will have to wait to post it in a few days. (it will be on its way to you tomorrow, lacey).

one more thought...it only took lucy 30 minutes to go to sleep tonight. a great improvement from the 3 1/2 hours on tuesday night, wouldn't you say?

this was like an episode of "while you were out"! :) what a beautiful blue. i have this (unenvironmentally friendly) laundry detergent by tide called white lilac, and even though my laundry area looks like a disaster zone the smell of this stuff makes me want to wash clothes all day long. just not fold them. i hate that part. :)

SO glad lucy fell asleep relatively quickly. i remember our kids going through that phase...

you are motivating me to do some improvements. my plan is to organize my kitchen soon. i need to find a pantry type cabinet bc we only have one 2 door cabinet right now for food. and that is not working for a family of four!!

That color is so beautiful! I have a tiny boring laundry room that could use some color.

You can call me Betty, or Bethany, or Beth ...Just don't call me late for dinner. said...

I love the colors. I always wanted a beautiful space to do laundry, God knows how much time us moms spend doing it. You are lucky to have such sweet friends with such great taste! It looks great!

What a great surprise! I love that color - and the little antique-y thingy in your new banner. I don't know what it is, either, but it's really cute!

I love it! I think I would drag a chair in there and have tea and cupcakes daily. The color is so cheery. How about putting a skylight in there too?
